This home was owned by a great couple who, in the early 80's while in northern B.C. decided Parksville was the perfect spot to retire! This lovely lady and her late husband relocated here and after two homes in the French Creek area they moved to this lovely 2 bedroom, 2 bath rancher, when it was "Brand Spanking New"! This cute little place was cosy and solid, and it would work even if they were on their own, as she said "You have to think about these things". She stayed after he passed away a few years later.
Their advance planning worked really well for them, they wanted to be close enough to walk to town, (they knew the time was coming that one of them would not drive anymore). He managed to "scooter to town" and around the neighbourhood after his driving days. They didn't want a lot of noise and closer in, they thought that might be an issue. They still wanted a bit of a garden, but not too much yard work. They had done the "yard slave" routine and though they enjoyed it it was time for less to worry about - this small lot was the perfect solution.
…They considered a condo or patio home, but they didn't want to have to ask permission to change a plant or park one of the family's motorhomes in the driveway when they came to visit. They were looking for a "newish" home at the time and then they found this home - it was "brand new" with new home warranty and new appliances too! The market was crazy busy at that time, and they felt really lucky. This was the first time in her "young" life she had a brand new house & she was excited! The vaulted ceilings and shaker style kitchen cabinetry made it seem almost "too nice", but she loved it all.
She even got to personalize the inside and add French doors between the living room and kitchen - she always wanted French doors! They also knew if she decided to have a little dog, that there were no rules that could stop her, and they even fenced the back yard to make it "as easy as pie". She never got a dog, I guess she was just too busy enjoying life!
They made new friends in the neighbourhood, she said the neighbours were "great, just really, really, nice". Her daughter and son in law retired here too, about five years after she moved to the Meridian area. This home was perfect when the grandkids came to visit, she had room to spare for them, and they had their own bedroom & bath. Once when everyone came, with all the couches and bedrooms filled and a spare cot in the dining room they had 10 family for a weekend! This home has been filled with love and laughter. Today it needs you to come and give it that "spark of life again" and to love it like she did.
